Hiccups on the path to greatness...
Published on April 2, 2007 By CerebroJD In Docks
Well, we're now into the beta testing phase for the popular graphical shortcut and taskbar replacement, ObjectDock!  However, with all developement, there are growing pains as well.  Its best to get them all gathered together here in one place, where the developer can pop in and keep us all up to speed on changes and fixes.

Without further ado, I declare this thread open for business!

Bug with OD+ 1.6.532u
Start Menu Control on secondary monitor popup is weird

OD+ Bug: Start Menu Control on secondary monitor popup is buggy/erratic.

How to reproduce:
1) Have dual monitor setup under vista ultimate, nvidia video card, object dock plus latest beta (see title
2) Move OD to *secondary monitor* on the bottom of the display.
3) Add "New 'Start Menu' Entry to bar
4) Click on new start menu icon.

When you click on the icon, the icon will either appear in one of three places, depending on where you click on it:

1) Off the bottom of the screen on the secondary monitor (the upper left hand corner of the menu appears at the click point). It first flickers in the right position (#3 below) before going into this bad position.
2) On the primary monitor on the far right hand side (not desirable)--not on the secondary monitor at all. It does flicker in the right position first (#3 below) before moving, usually.
3) In the correct position, where the click point is the lower left hand corner of the start menu on the secondary monitor. This happens rarely.

Please advise, or let me know if i can provide more info. I love this program!

I'm running XP Pro SP2 with cursorXP ATI AllInWonderX800 Logitech wireless MXLaser100 Mouse. Even with the new update The mouse slows down when you open a new menue or window or starting a new program. Seems to work fine after starting. The Scrolling function is verry jerky not smooth like it should be. The dock itself with all functions seems to work fine. I Have a Majong game that wont play at all because the mouse seems to move all over when you try to play. Not sure if the game is a related issue but it worked fine before the last couple of updates.

Only issues I have remaining are the occasional closing as reported by rustysam (although it may be sorted via the latest build as it hasn't happened yet) on XP - not noticed it the same on Vista and some tray icons not working correctly on XP at least. Primary culprits are Windows Live Messenger - can't open it at all, and Outlook 2007 (which is set to minimize to tray) which sometimes works Ok but mostly not, although the new mail envelope does open it. The context menus do not appear for these icons either. This is on XP with the tray in a tabbed dock - not tried on Vista as I don't have either app installed.

Hello
With the latest build (532u) by OD+ is now working again (i had the same problem of BlueDev) but it seems to have a little bug affecting flyout menus: after clicking its icon, the flyout shows up, but the outmost icons seems to be _under_ the dock instead of hovering above it (as if being on a lower layer, so to say). After a complete turn of the wheel, though, all comes back to normal. My machine is running WinXP SP2

P.S.: OD+ is really a nice piece of work, thank you for this software and your time spent on all these feedbacks

In the last build the new start menu shortcut was working....now in build (532u) it does not work. Using the new troubleshooting options I ...1 by 1 checked marked & restarted OD, no difference after each step. Removed it, Cleaned cache, restarted, Still not working. When I click on the icon the mouse momentarily freezes & fades in color but will not show startmenu. This occurs regardless of which effects are used or if effects are not used.

The 2 XP Startmenu Docklets available in the gallery both work perfectly.

Also with the weather docklet I have check marked open flyout on click yet the flyout opens on hover and single click opens the webpage. I would really like to have the click feature on flyout.

After much struggling I have the weather thingy working here in the UK. The syntax is "city, United Kingdom".

Greetings -

I'm having trouble with the 1.59a build of OD+. It can't install the mouse DLL hook. I've tried reinstalling three times, without luck. The system is XP Pro. Logitech Mouseware is installed. There have never been problems with this combination before.

The dock will load, but won't unhide. I can use the dock, but only if I right click on it first, then left click on an item. Left clicking without a preliminary right click doesn't do anything.

Jck0803: Is this a tabbed dock or zoomer dock? Is it currently set to being always on top? If not, try setting it to always on top and trying again...if it is, try toggling that off and trying. Could be one of two things...but I'm concerned that may be a bug of Windows XP itself (fixed in Vista) where non-always-on-top semi-transparent windows get drawn on top of always-on-top semi-transparent windows. (Reboots normally fix). The alternative is that it is a problem with OD and the windows are indeed placed behind. Let me know!

Anyone with "objectdock closes sometimes" problems...can you check your ObjectDock program folder for crash logs? If it didn't have time to give you a crash dialog, it still likly was able to save a crash report. Please check your program folder (likly "c:\Program Files\Stardock\ObjectDock" or similar) for files named something like: "ObjectDock Crash Report (4-13-2007 243b30c56).zip" and toss them over to support, with "v1.6 beta crash" in the subject. Thank you!!

By the way, the laggy mouse problem - its not fixed for the one that was just released, juuuust figured that out finally a few hours after. Will be updating either today or tomorrow with another refresh that fixes that. (Phew, thats a lot of refreshes! )

Hi JMBdev
It's a zoomer dock, set on "hide off-screen when not in use": both the dock itself (when in use) and the contents of any activated flyout menu stay on top of any other window, but, in crowded flyouts, the icons on both ends and the scroll arrows are shown under the dock itself. I've tried to change the interaction setting and it seems to behave in the same way for any other option with the exception of "hide in background when not in use": in that case it works (the flyout is completely above the dock).
Hope this pic helps:

P.S.: Even with the other interaction settings that seems to produce the bug, a complete turn of the flyout restores everything back to normal: on a dock positioned on the left of the screen as in the pic, spinning the flyout clockwise, the icon that is at the bottom when the flyout shows up comes out from the top being now _over_ the dock and any other icon from that point on is also over the dock.
After closing and re-opening the same flyout, you have the same problem again.

Foobie - good catch on the start menu glitch! Fixed I'm thinking...will be updating again tonight or tomorrow, give that one a try

MySecret: in the prior v1.6 builds the "show start menu" item was working fine but now after updating it does not? Hrm. Well, something to note with that you may have to reboot on update for that to work properly since it is updating a locked file.
