Well, we're now into the beta testing phase for the popular graphical shortcut and taskbar replacement, ObjectDock!  However, with all developement, there are growing pains as well.  Its best to get them all gathered together here in one place, where the developer can pop in and keep us all up to speed on changes and fixes.

Without further ado, I declare this thread open for business!

I'm interested in remotely connecting to my computer using Remote Desktop Connection, but I really dont know why I'm having problems. I'm going to ask some n00bish questions, because I really have no clue where to go from here. I've opened port 3389 on my router and pointed it at my computer's ip address, and I also have RDC enabled on my system. I'm using Windows XP Professional, with Service Pack 2. Now for questions!

Do I need to be logged off of my user in order to remotely connect?

Today I've been thinking about how 'modern' women are different from the women of the past.

Right now, I'm at work, at the helpdesk, looking out into the computer lab. Its quite interesting here at devry, because of the incredible mix of backgrounds and appearances. What strikes me, though, is the modern woman's ability to appear young for so many years. I can guaruntee you, that all the women in the lab are under the age of thirty. Thats it. I could not even remotely guess any ages after tha...

Mod's Eye View: November 1st, 2005 Well, I'm hoping to make this a weekly venture, highlighting some of the cooler themes that I've spotted and tried out over the course of each entry.

Our first skin of note is Dogmax4, by Brewman. Its an excellent and well-made skin that takes advantage of many of the features found in the newest WindowBlinds 5 beta. Currently, Brewman is appealing to a very limited audience, since the beta is only available to Object Desktop subscr...

I've been making some resizable objects, and I figure since the code is pretty easy to understand, I'll just toss it on here for people to check out!

There may be a better way to do this, but I've found that this works quite well. This code only does a horizontal resize, but its pretty easy to duplicate it to work for both X and Y. I know, because I've got the fully finished script here, but this'll be part of the challenge of learning. Learn by duplication! Now, its important to note tha...

Welcome to Part 3 of the basics of DesktopX

by CerebroJD

Time for part three, assuming you read through and understood part one and part two of the series.

In this tutorial, we're going to get a little complex. First, we're going to use the XmlHttp object to retrieve the contents of an xml file from the internet, then we're going to take that data, and break it down into parts that we can work with individually to make an RSS feed reader. Everyone assumes this is hard simply because o...

Welcome to Part 2 of the basics of DesktopX

by CerebroJD

Time for part two, assuming you read through and understood part one of the series.

Now we know basicly how to adjust some of an objects attributes. Width isnt the only thing that you can change though! Through various end attributes you can change position, color, transparency, rotation, etc. So far, what we've used is just a static value for the attribute value, though, and it doesnt have to be that way. We're gonna learn ...

Well, I got quite the treat today!

I'm posting this from Blog Navigator, a program that I've never before had the desire to use.  Why not?  No blog.  Well, I guess I sort of had one here on JoeUser, and consequently, WinCustomize as well, but I never used them.  It just wasnt quite worth all the effort of going through and typing up the whole thing and going through categories and stuff.  I find JoeUser to be VERY confusing, and it just wasnt a fun experience.  C...

LogonStudio is probably the first program that I install on a computer when someone I know wants to customize their computer.

Why is that?

Its because its an incredible program! Anyone can make a Logon, and even if you cant, so many have been made its easy to find one thats likable. Its a great way to take a big step away from the standard Windows XP look. Even if people dont mind the XP look, the logon annoys me to no end, so its my favourite thing to change. That said, its great to ...

I have set the type of object to Taskbar, but now the letters in the names of running programs are transparent. What I mean by that is that its as if the area was made "Magic Pink" and you can see the desktop through the shapes of the letters. Its really annoying too, since the area wont pick up mouse clicks or anything, meaning my taskbar object is useless. Any ideas on whats goin on?

I have a skin that I'd like to tweak the saturation and luminosity on, but I cant get it to have custom colouring turned on without forcing it, which turns off the controls I want to change. How can I change this?
April 7, 2004 by CerebroJD
Whenever I try to put transparency in the top titlebar, it doesnt work. Is there any way to enable it so that I can have a transparent one? I just want the top half of it to be invisible until about halfway across. Then I want the text background image to extend to the full height of the bar. But its not working. Any ideas on how to get around this? I'm using Uis2.

No matter what I do, I cant seem to get the magic pink to disappear from the corners of the menus in my skin. I have the little transparency box checked, but it doesnt seem to do anything in this instance. I thought it was possible to have rounded corners etc on menus.

Heres a screenshot of what I see:

Its a crappy screenshot, I know
