Hiccups on the path to greatness...
Published on April 2, 2007 By CerebroJD In Docks
Well, we're now into the beta testing phase for the popular graphical shortcut and taskbar replacement, ObjectDock!  However, with all developement, there are growing pains as well.  Its best to get them all gathered together here in one place, where the developer can pop in and keep us all up to speed on changes and fixes.

Without further ado, I declare this thread open for business!

thomassen - which icons are doing this? If its several, could I see a small screenshot?

I know what you're talking about, but trying to figure out a way around it. Getting icons, when i can, directly from Windows/Explorer can provide for more acure/high-quality icons much faster than loading them manually which is why i set that up...but not sure at this point how to detect if an icon is just a square with a box. I might end up having to actually look at the image and use some programmatic technique to detect if there is a box around it, and if so disregard the icon that explorer gave me.

FYI: the refresh of ObjectDock v1.6 Beta is now up on SDC! v1.58a[b].009.

Fixes most of the things reported thus far. The flashing one was quite annoying so wanted to take care of that sooner rather than later, and the new restore technique for the minimize/restore animation should near completly clear up any compatibility problems (e.g. trillian.) Thanks for the great feedback everyone!!

I sure am glad to have the system tray option back with Vista. I missed it muchly. Adios taskbar forever!

Woot!  No more random icon-hopping!  New version is good so far.  Found a hiccup in the previous version that has carried over into this new one though.  I saw one re-occurance of the Choose Image dialog problem, but it appears to have resolved itself after that.  I'll let ya know if I spot it again.

-- I'm unable to right-click on the Live Messenger icon in the system tray dock.  I can right-click the other icons without a problem, its just that one thats an issue.  This is in a zoomer dock, with only the system tray showing.

-- This has been a 'bug' for awhile now in ObjectDock.  In a zoomer dock, the 'rocking' alert action causes some trimming in a square shape around the icon thats rocking.  I can try to screenshot it if you're not sure of what I'm meaning.

*goes off to beat up the 'Always on Top' option*

Thanks again for the great work, Jeff!

Excellent updates! Thanks for the quick replies.

** Always on Top ** issues

Installed the latest OD beta 1.58a[b].009

This is on Windows XP SP2 (all current updates)

Very clean system (nothing else funky running except Avast Antivirus)

Using WindowBlinds 5.5.023
(I haven't seen any of issues where it's staying on top of or under just the WindowBlinds Skin)

Using IconPackager 3.19d[b].014

Docks I have: (if it makes any difference)
All docks are set to "Always be on Top"
1 regular dock with only running tasks
1 regular dock with shortcut icons
1 regular dock with systray icons (Autohide)
1 tabbed dock

(All of the docks have been "On Top" or "On Bottom" so it doesn't seem to be affected by the contents of the docks)

With Internet Explorer 7: (different tests)
(1)
Start OD
Start IE7 Normal Window
OD Docks are on Top (Correct)
Hit F11 Go to Full Screen in IE7
OD Docks are still on Top (Incorrect)

(2)
Start OD
Start IE7 in Full Screen
OD Docks are on Bottom (Correct)
Hit F11 exit Full Screen in IE
OD Docks are still on Bottom (incorrect)
Give another window the focus (not IE)
OD Docks are on Top (Correct)
Give IE The Focus (IE is not in Full Screen)
OD Docks are on Top (Correct)
Hit F11 Go to Full Screen in IE7
OD Docks are still on Top (Incorrect)

Thanks for working this issue, it's been driving me crazy....

Let me know if you would like any more info or have me run any other tests with IE or some other full screen app.

DigiCHET: Shouldn't need a code, you should be able to type in the location AccuWeather recognizes and it should show up. Given we did have some problems early on with missing locations...even places like Berlin weren't matching up Hoping this is closer to cleared up though.

Thanks Jeff. You're right, one should not need a code, yet entering in the "City, country" format provides no results either, so I thought a code like Weather.com used to provide would work. But I, and others have tried to work out a location's code from the site but have had no success.
MikeM seems to be having the same problem.

I'm installing the latest update to see if that fixes it and will report on any improvements.

CarpeThis: Does the problem happen if you disable windowblinds then open a new IE7 window and try the steps above?

I just updated to v1.58a[b].009 & I am unable to show the system tray icons at all

I rebooted after update
I am using Windows XP Pro SP2
I cleaned the cache, starting with a fresh OD+
I can choose to show only icons, minimized or all windows
I checked & unchecked every setting available in OD and tried after each, just in case

I have the latest update v1.58a[b].009 and I am unable to get any results. I went to accuweather and each place that I picked does show up on their site. I also tried changing units as well.

My games tab is the best example of the tiny looking icons. By the looks of it it's all icons that doesn't got a size over 32x32.
