Hiccups on the path to greatness...
Published on April 2, 2007 By CerebroJD In Docks
Well, we're now into the beta testing phase for the popular graphical shortcut and taskbar replacement, ObjectDock!  However, with all developement, there are growing pains as well.  Its best to get them all gathered together here in one place, where the developer can pop in and keep us all up to speed on changes and fixes.

Without further ado, I declare this thread open for business!

Just disabled both MCP settings, neither worked in showing system tray icons, then restarted both Od+ & stardock cnetral, nothing, then rebooted, still nothing.

hmmm just tried
hm... "London, United Kingdom" worked now. Didn't yesterday...
go figure....
United Kingdom it is then!

Location not found, should I at least be able to the weather from another country?

I am not using a firewall with windows, I am however using a firewall based router and wonder if that will affect it.

MySecret: yeah I should be adding more user-notification on the Tray side of it too. The tray module also checks file integrity before it can operate. Currently, failing silently if those checks fail. So if a file has a single byte messed up by the download, it won't work. Since I've definitely heard of people having install problems before, this could be the case. Leading me to think so based on that both of these modules appear to be silently not working. In the next refresh I'll have them report that they won't work rather than silently won't work....but in the mean time I'd recommend uninstalling OD (you can leave your files of course)...or just crawling in and deleting "ObjectDock.exe, StardockWeather.ocx, StardockTray.dll, and DockShellHook.dll" from the OD folder...rebooting...and then reinstalling OD+ from SDC. Hopefully with better results

thomassen: Yeah, I kindof wish too a little that the flyouts could be clickable. However, there wasn't quite two ways about it the way I was seeing it. For them to be able to fly out on mouseover, in order to be non-obtrusive they need to be able to retract immediatly when the cursor leaves them. Otherwise they'd be flying out on accident and sticking and just be irritating. THe mouse detection at that point would get really really tricky if I had to have it not retract for only "ok...if the cursor goes up and a little left/right outside the parent item's bounds...its ok..but..."/etc, and not to mention it'd look goofy as the zoom animation zoomed other icons that the mouse was over. The way normal flyouts get around this is that they of course lock the zooming of the dock, but yeah can't do that as much w/ this. Gets particularly bad when the flyout is on a left/right-side-of-the-screen-dock, since they're very spread out. The only possibility I do see is that maybe if you do click it could stick, but just not seeing enough purpose for the weather one to stick to sacrafice the usability.

For the fun of it though, I should note that in future versions - probably not for v1.6 but for future ones, I'm hoping to do more flyouts like this and have them be for the Plus version only. Won't give away my ideas at this point but I think it could be cool if infopanels for other types of things could flyout for information... and yeah they maybe could be single-pannels, so that way the user could go straight out to click on pieces of them without them retracting. I think I'm liking taking advantage of my flyout tech ; even if the future ones dont have as much purpose for the "fan-out" part of it the fade in/out is still really cool i think

didn't know that came out on mouse over. I just had a look at the settings and that option is disabled to me. Maybe cause it's in a tabbed dock?

I think the click to stick option sounds good. Because then the user have made a deliberate action to activate it and perform further actions.

And more flyouts = good! I love the flyouts. Only thing is if the item that's the source of the flyout is at the corner of the screen and the flyouts go outside the monitor area. Like the Folder Flyout; you loose one of the browse arrows. Would it be possible to have the flyout detect this and make sure the left right browse arrows stays inside the monitor area?

And yes I agree more flyouts are welcome

... or the ability to change them (with the current WB running for instance   ), and to adjust language ...

It was exactly what the developer ordered I have the system tray icons AND have both MCP settings enabled allowing Rightclick to restart on reboot. Thank you Jeff !~!

PLEASE bring back the option to have both system tray icons & runnings windows on the dock

It is currently sunny & 12 degrees C in London, United Kingdom, however I am unable to get any local or near local settings in Canada. And those flyouts are awesome

And yes I agree more flyouts are welcome. Thank you for all your work on improving this incredible program.

By the way, regarding Weather retrieval...that's definitely something that has the most kinks in it. Not in ObjectDock itself but in our new feed from AccuWeather which we've set up

Just to let you know, it's OK to get it work in France.

Don't know if you changed something in the accuweather.ocx with the update of OD+ or if that's relationsship with accuweather which have changed, anyway, in the same time the weather gadgets coming with both premium suites "Omega" and "Pantheon" are now also working fine (with the difference that Pantheon stuff align itself automaticly in user language - so for me french)

ah yes. on mouseover for tabbed docks its currently not possible. if i can think of a low-impact way to make it possible that'll be enabled on tabs too. hrm.

similar with it detecting if its on the edge. i've thought about fixing that but it might end up looking wierd. but i guess it'd be better than it being offscreen. its in my notes to work on, anyways.

Really? There was run today?

I'm personally not that interested in the mouseover action. But the flyout clicks are more interesting.

Not had any problems thus far, all pretty good apart from the weather thing, biatch to get sorted ("Liverpool, United Kingdom" worked in the end, needs the caps too or it doesnt find anything )

Apparently its sunny here in Liverpool, it must be hiding behind the moon

Mouseover for tabbed docks are not currently possible Please please please please try and find a way around it, did I say please?

One question/request/suggestion, and this has been bugging me for a while, is there any way of adding an option to tabbed docks that sets its position, like on the non-tabbed variety, for example centred, left, right etc? That would be handy as sometime when exiting games or apps that force full screen the tabbed dock jumps from the central position I place it

the screenshot of the config dialogue shows effects where mine shows tabs and styles. I'm confused - is the screenshot for OD basic? or has effects been added to OD+ and I'm not getting it?

Posted this on the announcement thread, but it seems more appropriate here.

The issue I'm having on 1.6 makes it almost impossible to use, due to serious slowdowns.

When using OD+, I'm having freezes on the desktop. The mouse won't even move, even when it is over other applications, for a few seconds at a time. This happens seemingly randomly, and does not happen with OD+ not loaded.
