Hiccups on the path to greatness...
Published on April 2, 2007 By CerebroJD In Docks
Well, we're now into the beta testing phase for the popular graphical shortcut and taskbar replacement, ObjectDock!  However, with all developement, there are growing pains as well.  Its best to get them all gathered together here in one place, where the developer can pop in and keep us all up to speed on changes and fixes.

Without further ado, I declare this thread open for business!

I have an issue similer to BluDev, except that it stops responding to clicks after I change the magnification size. It responds if I disable that option instead, but not if I change it. It responds perfectly fine if i enable the autohide, but not if I change the magnification setting.
Edit: I'm running Vista Ultimate, by the way.

New mode: "keep on top, hiding off-screen for maximized applications"

Where ? Can't find that.

EDIT : Ah, okay only for Zoomer-Docks...

BlueDev/measter: well thats pretty crappy. Closing/reopening the dock doesn't solve it temporarilly? And is it just the systemtray/taskbar items that stop responding? (Other items on the dock, shortcuts and such, still respond?) Can you right click on anything in the taskbar or does anything happen when you click & hold on anything in the system tray?

JMBDev, when I remove the dock, and create a new one, it works fine, but changing the magnification setting screws up it again. It is dock specific, so if it stops working on one dock, the rest do still work fine.
If I right click on one of the tasks after it's stopped responding to clicks, it brings up the menu that would show if you clicked on the background. It's as if the icons aren't even on the bar. As for the system tray, it's exactly the same. Clicking and holding does nothing.

In further playing around it seems that the taskbar dock is working, but is just very picky about where you click. I have my taskbar dock on the left of my screen, and I have to click on the right 2/3 of the icons. It zooms, but doesn't respond to clicks on the left 1/3 of the icon. Odd, but at least working.

However, the system tray dock just doesn't work at all if you do anything to it after you create it. Tabbed sys tray docks are working fine. However, restarting doesn't seem to help the zoomer sys tray dock. Left clicking on an icon zooms but doesn't do anything else. Right clicking brings up the OD right click menu, but will not interact with the contents. As far as I have noticed the regular zoomer dock works just fine.

Oh, one other thing that it odd. Stardock Central tray doesn't do anything at all on an OD+ system tray dock. Neither right clicking nor left clicking interact with the SDC tray control. Just an FYI.

Was your dock on the Left or Top edge of the screen, and was the magnification set to under 128 pixels? Those were the conditions that seem to expose it as far as the code goes, and as well those were the ones I was able to get it to happen under. Lil' oops. So, if that describes you which I'm guessing it is, then the problem is fixed for the next refresh coming very likly on Monday. If not, let me know!! (Well, let me know either way )

Thanks everyone

c242: oh yeah, yeah zooming docks only currently. I have interest in doing something for tabbed docks as well... just wasn't positive how I wanted it to look so hadn't put it in. I guess the option might just turn off "tabs-always-on-top" when there's a maximized app? Since docks are usually autohidden anyways.

Yes, both docks are on the left side of my screen, and the magnification settings are under 128 pixels.

1) With the new systray dock, I no longer have any right click function for my dialup connection icon.

2) I have one tabbed dock set at the top of monitor #2. If I set this dock to "Reserve edge of screen", the dock moves down below the area the dock occupied before.
When it rolls up, it acts as if the edge of the screen is 100 pixels below the actual edge.
It can't be moved up, (even after turning off the Reserve edge of screen), until OD is unloaded, and restarted.

This is minor, since a restart appears to correct the problem, but I can see this really confusing someone............ (someone like me )

Don't see that option anywhere in the zoomer dock config........? Not that I'm really interested in it, just wondering why I don't see it.

But what if the tabbed dock isn't set to autohide? Sometimes I set mine to autohide, but usually not.

Anew OD+ problem for me! When I click on an icon to go to an internet shortcut, it always takes me to the WinCustomize 'test' home page. I have a dock entry to take me to my msn.com mailbox, always worked perfectly 'til the latest upgrade of OD+, Dock Entry Properties/Link says the proper link for my msn.com mail acct, but it goes to WC home/test page. I have a shortcut to my ISP where I can check my quarantined emails and my current on-server mail if I wish. It's the home page for http://home.ida.net. Clicking on that icon/link in OD+ now only takes me to WC home/test page. The Dock entry Properties/Link is filled in correctly but the icon, when clicked on, always goes to WC home/test page. Been doing it now since the OD+ upgrade. Beginning to be annoying... What can I do?
on Apr 15, 2007
Now my Photobucket shortcut's doing it too. Dock Entry Properties/Link says the link to my Photobucket acct, as usual, but OD+ ignores that and when I click on the dock icon to go to Photobucket, it takes me to the WC home/test page!       What up w/that?

seldomseen: yep saw that one in another thread. in this current build all executing a URL will do is bring up your web browser. fixed for the next refresh-update (monday or tuesday, likly monday)

Now THAT'S customer-support feedback! Thanks, JMB. Your program is the best part of this site, as are the artists/coders/other magic-makers with the backgrounds, icons, docklets. OD+ makes my entire PC experience enjoyable and efficient. What a crew!
